Not Fit for 55: Prioritizing Human Well-Being in Residential Energy Consumption in the European Union

An analysis of the 27 European Union (EU) member states over years 2000–2018 examines relationship between residential energy use per capita and human well-being, measured by Human Development Index (HDI). The EU’s ‘Fit for 55’ policy package to reduce greenhouse gas emissions may derail post-communist states’ convergence (PCMS) same level well-being households in old (OMS). aim this article is assess both direct indirect well-being. findings indicate a connection addition effect them. Therefore, reducing or leveling off consumption PCMS will prevent development within EU. lack convergence, because assumption decline all could stagnate lower HDI implementation.
